Retrieve your email with Mozilla Thunderbird
25th May 2006, 08:47:00 PM
Thunderbird can be downloaded free of charge from mozilla.com. These Instructions were written using my Mac, but Thunderbird is cross platform, so it should be very similar on Windows, too.
The Procedure:
Start Mozilla Thunderbird, pull down the 'Tools' menu and Choose 'Account Settings'.
Note: If this is the first time you've
started Thunderbird, it will automatically prompt you to add an account.
Clearly, you want to add an 'Email Account'. Click continue.
Fill in your name and your new email address. Nothing too challenging yet.
We're using IMAP. The incoming server is mail.toastputer.net, the outgoing server is smtp.toastputer.net
In both cases, your username is your email address.
Give the account a friendly name - use your email address if you like.
Take a moment to properly check the settings, mistakes can be corrected by using 'Go Back'. When you're happy, click 'Done'.
Click 'Server Settings' and choose 'SSL'.
Now, click 'Outgoing Server (SMTP)' click 'edit'.
Enter a friendly description and set to use TLS.
Click 'OK' and 'OK' again, then click 'Get Mail' in the toolbar. Accept the certificate permanently - you'll get prompted about this when you first send a mail too.
Enter your password. Save it if you don't want to type it in all the time.
There's your email in Thunderbird. Report problems to trouble@toastputer.net.
